If you’re a homeowner, there’s a good chance you’ve seen something online about air source heat pumps (ASHPs). They’re becoming the rising star of the sustainable heating world, and for good reason. Efficient, eco-friendly, and surprisingly cost-effective, these systems are heating (and cooling) homes in ways that make traditional boilers look downright prehistoric.
If you’re on the fence about investing in an ASHP, here’s why it could be the smartest decision you make for your home.
Let’s start with the money, because who doesn’t want lower bills? Air source heat pumps are super-efficient. They can generate three to four units of heat for every unit of electricity they use. Compare that to a standard boiler, which can lose up to 30% of its energy in the heating process. The result? You’re getting more bang for your buck while keeping your home warm and toasty.
Worried about the upfront cost? Don’t be. The UK government offers grants through schemes like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which can knock thousands off the installation price. That means you can get a state-of-the-art heating system for your home without breaking the bank.
With the government phasing out gas boilers and ever stricter EPC regulations looming, an ASHP is more than just a heating system—it’s an investment in your home’s future. Installing one could improve your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, which means a more attractive property for potential buyers or renters. Plus, knowing you’re ahead of the curve feels pretty great, doesn’t it?
Once installed, ASHPs are easy to maintain, requiring just a yearly service to keep them in top shape. They’re also built to last, with a lifespan of 15-20 years or more, making them a much more reliable choice for the long haul.
Gone are the days of noisy, bulky heating systems. Modern ASHPs are designed to blend seamlessly into your home without drawing attention. And let’s be honest—using invisible energy from the air to heat your home?
That’s just cool.
An air source heat pump isn’t just a heating system; it’s a lifestyle upgrade. Lower bills, greener living, and a future-proof home—what’s not to love? So, whether you’re looking to save money, reduce your carbon footprint, or simply future-proof your home, an ASHP is worth serious consideration.
Still have questions? Reach out to us, and let’s explore how an air source heat pump could transform your home.
Last week, one of our customers called us out to repair an Air Source Heat Pump that had caught fire.
We sent our team of technicians out and were able to repair and reset the system within 24 hours, ensuring that the residents had the minimum disruption to their service.
The Heat Pump was installed around ten years ago by a different company under a set of safety regulations that are no longer fit for purpose.
Over the last decade, Heat Pump technology and regulations have improved significantly in terms of performance and safety.
Doing a little preventative maintenance annually, can help keep your Heat Pump running efficiently, keep your energy bills as low as possible.
Your wiring and cable size needs to be checked to make sure it is correct for the size of the heat pump. Make sure the Residual Current Device (RCD) is the correct capacity. Check the functionality of your heat pumps inverter, as that is what caused the fire in this case.
Your Heat Pump is outside in all weathers 24 hours per day, and that can cause wear and tear on your system.
We recommend that you do an annual inspection of your Heat Pump every year, including:
We would recommend having your inspections done by a qualified and MCS registered company as you can guarantee that they are fully aware of the latest legislation and safety guidelines.

Sometimes help in making the best decision can have a huge impact.
So, we are delighted to have received the notification that we are now RECC certified.
RECC is the Renewable Energy Consumer Code, which means proper protection for our customers by guaranteeing both our work…and how we treat our customers.
Making the investment in upgrading the energy systems in your home or business can feel significant in the short term (before you feel all the benefits after installation) and anything that can build your confidence makes the decision much more manageable.
Now, for those who aren’t entirely sure what it is…
RECC sets out high consumer protection standards for businesses selling or leasing renewable energy generation systems to domestic consumers.
UK Chartered Trading Standards Institute approves RECC as part of the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme and is also a TrustMark Scheme Operator.
Every little helps.
